The colour and form seem to Illusions of Violence Games be of utmost importance, above the need for line. Indeed, a stronger use of line would have contained and possibly even restricted the emotive values in the artwork . This style did not go unnoticed by critics. Persuasive Argumentative Essays. Both Delacroix and Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres were referred to as Rubenistes and Poussinistes respectively, due to their use of the #039;academic#039; style of line or the #039;romantic#039; truth of colour as the main element in their works, although both are now recognised as Romantic artists. Characteristics Short Story. 7. The composition in Paganini is flowing and melodious and essays is greatly enhanced by the aforementioned use of colour and the form of the performer. native genius essay Peter N. Herndon. Contents of Curriculum Unit 99.03.03: This war did not spring up here in persuasive argumentative essays, our land. It was brought upon us. by the children of the Great Father (whites) who came to take our. land from us without price, and who do many evil things. . . . Difference Between Classical Music! It. seems to me that there is a better way than this. When people come. to trouble it is better for both parties to come together without arms, to talk it over, and find some peaceful way to settle. (Spotted Tail. Brule, Sioux leader, 1877)

Five hundred years after Columbus' discovery of the New World, the descendants of the original native immigrants he encountered continue to feel the persuasive argumentative essays, effects of the 'second great immigration'-the European invasion. What happens when claims of older inhabitants and new immigrants conflict? This question was first addressed in U.S. history in the conflicts between the native tribes and European colonizers, and it has never been resolved. There are still major issues that concern Native Americans: citizenship, civil rights, religious practices, land use, fishing rights, resource development and self-governance. Here in Connecticut, the classical and romantic, Mashantucket Pequots and Mohegans are making new rules in argumentative, a game that includes amassing huge amounts of money by way of in the immensely profitable gambling casinos. Tribes in persuasive essays, New Mexico, California, Nevada, Wisconsin and Washington State have won court cases that re-establish ancient land and fishing rights, while local citizens can only leadership in the, stand back and complain. Ancient Native American ancestral artifacts and bones have been removed from persuasive argumentative essays, anthropological museums across America, due to successful Indian lawsuits. And Romantic! How is it that these victories have been won in courts that for centuries shut the door on so-called Indian cultural and legal claims?

What are some of the persuasive argumentative essays, implications for the future, if courts continue to reinterpret the law in favor of Native American claims? And what implications do these Indian settlements have on civil rights cases that may be brought into courtrooms on behalf of other native minorities or immigrant groups in America today? What are some of the major issues that confront Native Americans in characteristics, the 1990s? What tribal rights--political, religious and cultural--should be given protection from our government? Should Indian lands be returned to them, even if it means displacing other citizens or industry? How has government policy changed since the late 1960s when President Richard Nixon stated that federal policy would include Indians on key committees and assured the Indian that he can assume control of his own life without being separated from the tribal group? (Bordewich, p. 12) What of the legendary mismanagement of the essays, federal Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA), which a Congressional report in sweetheart, 1990 called a national disgrace?

How realistic are notions of preserving a distinct Indian culture in an America in persuasive argumentative essays, which statistics reveal that Indians are continuing to blend in with the dominant population through intermarriage at an ever-increasing rate? ____ I hope to create a teaching unit that addresses not only past issues of cultures in conflict but also will make students more aware of legal issues that continue to Illusions to Video Games Essay, plague our society as many Indians are continuing to find it difficult to cope with life in present-day America. Are Native Americans just one more minority ethnic group that is finding it difficult to become mainstreamed into American life? Or does their status as first peoples make them so historically and culturally unique that they belong in a separate category where conventional laws and values don't apply? The ultimate question I want students to pursue is: Who are the Indians in persuasive, the 1990's?

What are they to a soldier sweetheart, us and what are we to them? To most of essays us, there is something appealingly noble and free about an Indian warrior. In the 1991 film, Dances with Wolves, the main character, John Dunbar, played by a soldier Kevin Costner, found something he had always been missing when he became accepted into the Sioux community: the mystery of his own personal identity. Argumentative Essays! The cavalry soldier, Dunbar, toward the sweetheart, end of the film, makes the amazing statement, I had never known who John Dunbar was, but as I heard my Sioux name being called, I knew for the first time in my life who I really was. I plan to show segments of this Oscar-winning film as part of my unit, primarily because the movie is argumentative essays, very sympathetic to American Indians, who are depicted as heroic people with real ambivalence toward whites. In my view the film poses two major conflicts that are virtually always present between older inhabitants and new immigrants: conflicting cultures and conflicting values. I would like my students to observe and write about the more obvious external conflicts portrayed in the film; and also the more subtle inner conflicts. Is the film true to history?

Are there any stereotypes in the movie? Is the ending a satisfying one? Is there more to the story? I want students to divide into groups and try their hand at writing a sequel to the movie. A Soldier! This film is very much about the argumentative essays, Indian identity and the ruthlessness of the reference for court samples, policies of the United States government. This is a popular view. To what extent was it true?

One of Costner's lines upon discovering hundreds of bison carcasses left to rot on the plains was, Who would do such a thing? It must be a people without values, without soul. He is, of course, referring to members of his own race. In referring to the Sioux, in contrast, he declares, Every day ends with a miracle. John Dunbar has reversed himself. He now despises what his own race represents and acknowledges what he perceives to be the essays, higher ecological and spiritual plane that his blood brothers, the a soldier, Sioux have attained. Students must be careful not to stereotype Indians as people that have always lived in complete harmony with the land and essays, have somehow passed down this attribute to their descendants. How far must the courts go in characteristics, protecting sacred Indian religious rights? We will be discussing these issues later in argumentative essays, the section on modern court cases involving Native claims to tribal sovereignty and self-determination.

____ The residents of authoritarian St. Lawrence Island are descendants of the first Asian migrants to the so-called New World. They are Eskimoes who still stretch walrus hides on wooden racks to make traditional skin boats for whale hunting every spring, since the noise of modern aluminum boats causes the whales to dive out of harpoon range. Argumentative! There are no island roads to difference between and romantic music, speak of, so the essays, people get around by modern dune buggies. They ice-fish and hunt deer in the winter, as well as cater to the tourists who fly over from the mainland. Their lives are a curious blend of the ancient and modern worlds. Even before man's arrival to the New World, the so-called land bridge was the route of choice for many pre-historic creatures such as the three-toed horse, the eohippus, the camel and others. And what about man's first steps onto North American land? When do scientists date his arrival and what were the conditions that surrounded his migration?

Semi-nomadic Asiatic people lived on Beringia, the subcontinent that connected eastern Siberia and Western Alaska, and contained a low basin where animals and people from northern China and Mongolia lived to flee the spread of the glaciers. Illusions Of Violence! It was fertile, but its existence was temporary. When the ice melted, the basin filled with water, sending its residents scurrying to higher ground. According to scientists, between 15,000 and 10,000 B.C., the essays, final flood began, caused by the melting ice of the a soldier sweetheart, huge glaciers. First the western plain flooded, preventing a return to Siberia. The only choice was to travel east, into persuasive, the less fertile plains of Eastern Beringia. The scene must have been terrifying:

During the evacuation, as catastrophic as anything in human experience, hundreds, perhaps thousands of people fled the plain, as biting winds blew down from the glaciers, darkening the sky with volcanic grit. Imagine families separated and children lost, a scene of confused alarm and authoritarian services, desperate flight as the tide broke through the straits, linking the Arctic Ocean with the Bering Sea for the first time in thousands of years, drowning the plant life, and disrupting the great animal herds. (Morgan, p. 23) These frightened refugees moved from bison watering holes to marshy areas teeming with migratory waterfowl. They crossed frozen lakes and rivers, working their way south, not knowing what they would face or where they were going. Persuasive Argumentative! This was the Great Migration of Early Man. These were the of Violence to Video, First Families of America. And they walked here. Some groups moved eastward into Alaska and Canada. Some moved farther south down the Rocky Mountains into argumentative essays, Montana and Colorado where there were no more threat of glaciers. Some went as far as Mexico and beyond, across Panama into Colombia, down the coast of Chile, and even as far as the tip of South America, a distance of 12,000 miles. The trip down the Pacific Coast took approximately 1,250 years, at a rate of about 10 miles per year. Short Story! (Morgan, page 24)

The earliest American immigrants began inhabiting two continents with nobody else already there. Nobody to run them off their land. Persuasive Argumentative Essays! Nobody telling them to authoritarian leadership, go home where they came from. They would have this land exclusively to themselves for about 15,000 years! What they would do in America and how they would advance culturally is the argumentative, subject of our next segment. ____ The Spaniards wandered through an Indian metropolis of more than 200,000 people, and marveled at a great market that rivaled those of Seveille and Constantinople. The Aztecs, polished warriors and diplomats, people of grace and Games, manners, were a far cry from the Bahamian Indians, even if they did engage in human sacrifice. (Fagan, page 16) Amazed residents of Spain in the 1520s observed imported cultured Aztec nobles and argumentative, performing acrobats. Authoritarian Services! Curious citizens of Bristol, England watched some North Americans clothid in beastys skinnys, ate meat raw and had the manners of bruyt bestis. (Fagan, page 16) It became obvious to all that there was a world of difference among Indian tribes and civilizations, many of them in competition with one another.

Scholars wondered how such lifestyle and cultural differences existed among societies that lived only a few hundred miles apart from each other? According to one historian, most Europeans thought of all Indians as a heathen, irreligious people in persuasive, need of Christian teaching. They had come from the Garden of Eden and had not been in the New World for character letter for court samples very long. The philosopher Francis Bacon summed up this view in persuasive argumentative, the following quotation: 'Marvel you not at Illusions to Video Games, the thin population of essays America, nor at the rudeness and ignorance of the authoritarian leadership public, people, for you must accept your inhabitants of America as a young people: younger a thousand years, at persuasive argumentative, least, than the rest of the download music from napster computer, world.' (Quoted in argumentative essays, Fagan, page 28) ____ There was a second early view of the Indian, a more ominous one. Columbus also wrote of the elusive cannibalistic Caribs, who go to all the islands and eat the people they are able to capture. Illusions Of Violence To Video Essay! In Virginia, following the argumentative, Jamestown colony's war against the Powhatans, a Virginia poet wrote in 1622, that the Indians were. ____ 'Rooted in Evill, and opposed in Good; Errors of nature, of inhumane Birth, The very dregs, garbage and spanne of Earth.' In 1711, the Virginia House of Burgesses set aside 20,000 pounds as bounty money for those who would do the character letter samples, colony a favor and exterpate (sic) all Indians without distinction of Friends or Enemys. Persuasive! (Bordewich, page 35) Except for the Iroquois of the Northeast woodlands, who created a military state to for court, keep away neighboring tribes and Europeans alike, most of the early inhabitants of North America lived in small settlements, scattered throughout the continent.

At the time of Columbus discovery, there were probably fewer than 10 million citizens of North America. Native Americans had neither the desire nor the means to manipulate nature aggressively. Argumentative Essays! Yet they did sometimes ignite massive forest fires, deliberately torching thousands of acres of trees to create better hunting habitats, especially for deer. (Bailey, page 7) The fact is that the Indian population was so thinly scattered around North America that huge areas were literally untouched by classical music human beings prior to persuasive argumentative essays, 1492. Story! This would soon change upon persuasive argumentative the arrival of the new immigrants, the Europeans. Colonial Times and the Clash of Cultures. The Powhatans, like Native Americans in other locations, had been the victims of several factors, each of them beginning with the leadership in the public services, letter D: Disease, Disorganization and Disposability. (DISEASE) 'they were extremely susceptible to argumentative, European-imported maladies.

Epidemics of reference samples smallpox and measles raced mercilessly through their villages. (DISORGANIZATION) The Powhatans alsolacked the unity with which to make effective opposition to the relatively well-organized and militarily disciplined whites. (DISPOSABILITY) Finally they provided no reliable labor source and, after the argumentative, Virginians began growing their own food crops, had no valuable commodities to offer in commerce. They therefore could be disposed of without harm to the colonial economy. Indeed the sweetheart, Indian presence frustrated the colonists' desire for persuasive a local commodity the a soldier, Europeans desperately wanted: land.' (Quoted in Bailey, page 29) Not all policies toward Native Americans were as systematically cruel as De La Warr's in Jamestown. During the early period of colonization, whites and Indians lived in scattered settlements that were, for the most part, peaceful. In New England missionaries offered the Indians the opportunity to argumentative essays, settle into praying towns where they were encouraged to download music from, pray to argumentative essays, the Christian God. Roger Williams, the founder of Rhode Island, and a soldier, William Penn in Pennsylvania both fought the barbaric ways the Indians were often treated. Williams was an advocate of humane treatment when it was unpopular to be so.

During the bloody Pequot War of persuasive 1636, he had the between and romantic, courage to write: ____ ____ 'Boast not proud English of thy birth and blood, ____ ____ Thy brother Indian is by birth as good. ____ ____ Of one blood God made him, and thee, and all, ____ ____ As wise, as fair, as strong, as personal.' (Quoted in Bordewich, page 36) Indians were often cruel to persuasive, their enemies. Although it is often claimed that the whites invented scalping as evidence of having killed an Indian, words for ceremonial scalping (as well as other forms of dismemberment) existed in many Indian languages prior to the white man's arrival. Also, there were many strictly Indian wars among cultures such as the Iroquois who fought the Hurons, and the Navahos who colonized the Hopis. The Sioux on the Great Plains ruthlessly put down and subjugated smaller groups who dared oppose their empire building. It was the norm for members of each tribe to consider themselves the People and character letter samples, everyone else something less. For example, the Catawbas of South Carolina considered other natives to be dogs or snakes and white colonists Nothings. The name Comanche comes from a Ute nickname which means those who are always against us. Apache comes from the Pueblo word for enemy. Argumentative Essays! (Bordewich, pages 36-37) Early Policies Toward Native Americans. In 1791, the Treaty of Holston between the United States and the Cherokees warned that if any non-Indian should settle on any of the Cherokees' lands, such person shall forfeit the protection of the United States, and a soldier sweetheart, the Cherokees may punish him, or not, as they please. (Bordewich, page 37) Secretary of War Henry Knox proposed criminal action against persuasive, violators.

But the flood of settlers was unrelenting. The central government was too distant; the hunger for land too great. So, despite treaties and government warnings, American settlers streamed into Indian lands with little regard for the law. Indians sometimes responded to the situation with an eye toward the future, realizing it was in their best interest to authoritarian leadership, adapt to the changing times. In 1791, the Seneca chief Cornplanter wrote to persuasive essays, Quakers in Philadelphia for financial help so that he could provide his people with the technical skills they would need in order for them to become more Americanized and less dependent on the old ways. (Bordewich, page 38) According to a soldier, Thomas Jefferson and many early Christian missionaries, the way of the future was to argumentative, teach the Native Americans the principles of property ownership, farming and reference for court, cattle raising. In the early nineteenth century, government policy toward pacifying the Indians was to attempt to incorporate them into the American culture. Quakers, Methodists, Moravians and Baptists established model settlements along the persuasive, frontier intended to a soldier sweetheart, attract Native Americans to a life-style in keeping with Protestant values.

Along with Bibles, church groups supplied the persuasive essays, Indians with plows, looms, spinning wheels and livestock, often courtesy of federal funds. Christian missionaries trekked into the wilderness hand-in-hand with government-paid carpenters and blacksmiths. The whites gave religious instruction along with house-building and tool-forging skills. David Zeisberger, who committed his life to a soldier sweetheart, working among the Delawares, and believed that all people had the right to persuasive argumentative essays, a place in God's family, welcomed the Native Americans into the Christian community as equal members. He noted that Those who come to Christ and join the church turn to agriculture and raising stock, keeping cattle, hogs and difference classical and romantic, fowls. (Bordewich, page 39) There seemed to persuasive, be a definite link between church and state policies of the time, since both intended to characteristics, assimilate Native Americans into the Euro-American way of life. The government's task, then, was to convince the Indians to argumentative, reject their old identity as antiquated and impractical and embrace new ways and character reference for court samples, skills that would better equip them to persuasive, survive in a land that was rapidly changing its identity. Among questions many Native Americans must have been asking themselves were: will it be worth it? Will the gains outweigh the a soldier, losses? Is becoming a white-Indian and adopting white ways a good deal, or one that should be rejected on moral and other grounds?

Will it work? Case Study in Assimilation: The Cherokees. ____ The Cherokee nation's constitution of 1827 modeled itself after the one in Washington, D.C. It had an elected congress made up of a lower and upper house, who then chose three members of the executive branch: the Principal Chief, his assistant and persuasive essays, a treasurer. The independent judicial branch was made up of eight district courts and an appeals court. There was a bill of rights, taxation laws and protection from how to download music napster to my, unreasonable searches and seizures. Their representatives created a preamble that emulated the original: We the Representatives of the people of the essays, Cherokee Nation, in Convention assembled, in order to establish justice, ensure tranquillity, promote our common welfare, and secure to ourselves and sweetheart, our posterity the blessings of liberty . . . (Bordewich, page 41)

Boudinot's vision for the Cherokees was inseparably tied to a future for a soldier the United States where both would benefit. He was convinced that the survival of the Cherokee nation depended on their leaving behind the old ways in order to avoid extinction. Under Boudinot's leadership the Cherokees had adopted democratic ways and private enterprise, and pointed the way to argumentative essays, peaceful change, a model for other tribes in partnership with the United States government. He realized how important the Cherokee model was to the future of such experiments nationwide. If it should succeed, other tribes would certainly follow suit and there would be great expectations of an character enlightened solution to the age-old Indian question.

If it should fail, Boudinot said, then all hopes are blasted, and falls the argumentative, fabric of Indian civilization. (Bordewich, page 43) His vision was a remarkable one. In 1826, Boudinot went throughout the United States on a speaking tour to create support for the Cherokees. His speech, An Address to the Whites, was later published as a pamphlet. In it, he appealed to logic and spiritual reasoning: 'The world should know what we have done in the past few years (in Georgia) to foresee what yet we may do with the assistance of our white brethren, and that of the Common Parent of us all. In times of peace she will plead the common liberties of America. In times of characteristics short story war her intrepid sons will sacrifice their lives in your defense. And because she will be useful to essays, you in coming time, she asks you to assist her in her present struggles. She asks not for music greatness; she seeks not wealth; she pleads only for argumentative essays assistance to become respectable as a nation, to enlighten and ennoble her sons, and to ornament her daughters with modesty and virtue.' (Quoted in characteristics, Bordewich page 43) As those who have studied our nation's history know, despite successful appeals to the United States Supreme Court, Boudinot's worst fears were realized when, in January of 1830, Georgia declared Cherokee laws null and void and persuasive, prohibited Cherokees from difference classical, testifying in cases involving whites. Several months later, Congress passed President Andrew Jackson's Indian Removal bill, which resulted in the state of Georgia auctioning off Cherokee lands without any consultation with the Indians.

Several thousand U.S. army troops arrived in New Echota and herded the native inhabitants into stockades where some two thousand died even before the forced march began. Then, in the fall of 1838, the Cherokees started their grueling Trail of persuasive essays Tears to Oklahoma, which resulted in the death of another four thousand Cherokees from exposure and sickness. Character Letter For Court! The fate of the Cherokee nation as a self-governing body was sealed. In a larger sense, with the death of New Echota in Georgia any hopes of Indian tribes having the right to decide their own fate were essentially gone. Still to come were the Plains Wars of the 1870s, the persuasive argumentative, closing of the frontier, and the creation of authoritarian public services reservations. Essentially, once the Cherokee decision was made, there would be no turning back. Independent tribal life was doomed and the Indian voice was silenced. Not until the civil rights movement of the 1960s did American Indians begin to raise their voices publicly and appeal to the wider American conscience. Persuasive Argumentative Essays! Writing a Persuasive/Argumentative Essay

6 Resume Rules for 2017 That You May Not Know About. We#8217;re only in the second week of the new year, so this is persuasive a great time to Illusions Games, talk about resume rules for persuasive argumentative 2017. Between Music. This time last year, readers talked about whether or not they apply to jobs when they don#8217;t meet all the requirements (also see our imposter syndrome post), and a few years ago Kat answered a reader email about unusual ways to get your resume noticed. Essays. Here are six resume rules for 2017 that you may not have heard: 1. Know that the #8220;one page#8221; limit no longer applies. Depending on your career and character reference letter for court samples, circumstances, it#8217;s OK if your resume goes beyond a page. Persuasive Essays. To figure out whether to story, make your resume one, two, or even three pages, check out persuasive argumentative essays, these guidelines from Monster. No matter what, though, keep it concise #8212; and make 100% sure there are no typos!

2. Tailor your resume to each position and company; don#8217;t keep sending every employer exactly the same one. Use the letter words and phrases from the job description in each resume, especially because it#8217;s more likely to essays, be read by a computer first than by how to download a human. 3. Include the URL of your LinkedIn profile and any relevant, employer-friendly social media accounts. Persuasive Argumentative. (After all, the company is characteristics short going to persuasive, google you anyway!) If you have a portfolio website, include that too. By the download music from napster to my computer way, if your LinkedIn URL looks something like this: linkedin.com/in/jane-smith-5cu95802, create a custom URL for persuasive essays your public profile (e.g., linkedin.com/in/janesmith) by updating your public profile settings. 4. Include a summary or #8220;personal branding statement#8221; rather than an objective, which has fallen out of download from napster computer favor over the years. Here are some examples from the web: #8220;corporate troubleshooter regularly assigned to the most challenging initiatives#8221; (source) #8220;cost-conscious benefits manager who has creatively tailored plans to employee needs at persuasive essays below average employer cost#8221; (source) #8220;online ad sales director with 12 years of experience leading sales teams in characteristics short, start-up, rapidly growing, and persuasive essays, established companies#8221; (source) 5. Difference Between Classical And Romantic. Don#8217;t leave college activities on persuasive essays your resume forever.

Career experts recommend removing them anywhere from two to five years after graduation. And unless you#8217;re a recent graduate, don#8217;t include your graduation year. Once you#8217;ve past the #8220;young professional#8221; stage, leaving it off may protect you from music age discrimination (and motherhood discrimination). (You might ask, #8220;Well, can#8217;t they tell how old I am by looking at my listed positions?#8221; but Alison Green of Ask a Manager recommends removing jobs that you held more than 15-20 years ago.) 6. Save and persuasive essays, send/upload your resume as a PDF (rather than a Word document) so that the formatting will look exactly the same to the hiring manager as it does to you. Tip: I literally did not learn this until today, so some of you may not know this either #8212; when you choose #8220;Export#8221; in Word and create a PDF, the formatting will be preserved, including hyperlinks. Public. (A note based on some of the comments #8212; if you KNOW a bot will be looking at your resume, upload a plain .txt version as well as a PDF version for human eyes, if you can.) When is the last time you updated your resume? How long is it? How much do you alter it for each position you apply for?

For those of you who REVIEW resumes, what are your main takeaways? Have you read about any other resume rules for 2017? Getting Past the argumentative essays First Cut with a Resume That Grabs Digital Eyes [New York Times] What To Remove From Your Resume In 2017 [Forbes] How Long Can Your Resume Be? [Ask a Manager] 16 Things You Should Remove From Your Resume [The Ladders] Research: How Subtle Class Cues Can Backfire on Your Resume [Harvard Business Review] I would be weary of the PDF rule. I always used to submit resumes as PDFs it just seemed more polished. In The Public Services. But one of my friend who works in HR for a big multi-national company says that they get so many applications for each job that they all get scanned by automated software for essays keywords before ever being seen by a person. And many of those software applications cannot properly search PDFs, even though candidates are told this is an acceptable format. If your application is being submitted to what is obviously HR software, I#8217;d think twice and submit a Word document if it#8217;s a supported format. They probably can#8217;t search PDFs if they#8217;re a scan of something.

But the PDFs you save from Microsoft Word are most definitely searchable. I don#8217;t know how the search function of these software applications work, but apparently a number of them struggle with PDFs. Knowing that, why take the risk? They#8217;re only not searchable if they#8217;re scanned. I think it#8217;s riskier to send a .doc than to send a searchable, natively created PDF. Here#8217;s an example where spellcheck won#8217;t help you. You meant wary but wrote weary.

Both are words, so spellcheck is short going to argumentative, think you#8217;re fine. Always have a good friend or colleague check your entire resume. I review resumes pretty regularly and I HATE when someone sends a Word document. Whether fair or not, it makes me feel like the applicant is not very tech-savvy. Even when the format stays as the applicant intended (which it seldom does), I always use the Show/Hide formatting button and can often see that s/he made the resume #8220;look#8221; good but is not a very adept/efficient Word user. In The. In fairness, my organization does not use automated software but I haven#8217;t heard of problems with resume scanning software and PDFs as long as OCR is persuasive argumentative applied.

Another big turn-off is people who describe themselves as #8220;detail-oriented#8221; but have an error in their resume. I am much less forgiving of an error when the applicant has listed #8220;attention to detail#8221; as one of their selling points. How To Download Music From Napster Computer. Similarly, I more apt to forgive a minor error on our online application (unique to us, no spell check, etc.) than I am to overlook an error on your resume or cover letter, which you#8217;ve had time to prep, check and persuasive argumentative, have others review. Difference. Is #4 actually a thing people recommend now? I always think it looks a bit cliched and persuasive, useless, and as a hiring manager, I wouldn#8217;t even bother to character letter, read it. Persuasive Argumentative. If you have some special skill/relation to story, the job, tell me in persuasive essays, your cover letter or email don#8217;t give me random marketing jargon. Agree, I would be surprised to see this on a resume and would assume the person is out of touch with current norms. Download Music Napster Computer. This should be in persuasive, the cover letter. Keeping it in is a waste of short space. I see this a lot so I know it#8217;s done.

I#8217;m not in Law, though, so that may be the difference? It doesn#8217;t bother me as long as it#8217;s brief. Argumentative. Even if they use marketing jargon, it still gives me a sense of what the applicant believes are their top professional or personal traits, which can be telling. It#8217;s like the classic interview question, #8220;describe yourself in three words#8221; (or some iteration of that). The cover letter, on the other hand, is how their skills and experience will align with my organization and characteristics short, the position. Persuasive Argumentative Essays. I am really, really against #8220;personal branding statements#8221; on resumes. I don#8217;t need or want that on your resume. The resume is valuable space and Illusions of Violence Games Essay, should be devoted to highlighting how the applicant#8217;s skills and experience match the employer#8217;s need.

I would keep graduation year on resumes, but that may be a law-specific thing I need to persuasive argumentative essays, know when you graduated so I know what kind of level of seniority I#8217;m looking at. I#8217;m also really against wasting resume space on #8220;other interests,#8221; but I know lots of download music from napster to my people here disagree with me. And I do get that, say, summer associate candidates may not have a ton of stuff to include on persuasive the resume and thus the authoritarian leadership public fluff gives the interviewer something to talk about. But if you have enough substantive material to fill up a page, please, for essays the love of god, do not cut any of it so you can include that you enjoy hiking, cooking, and how to to my computer, SEC football. What would you think of including law school graduation year, but losing college graduation year and persuasive argumentative, grad school graduation year? In my case, I graduated in 2010, but did grad school before law school, so I#8217;m 39. And don#8217;t really want to broadcast that to between classical and romantic, a prospective employer. But neither do I want to make the employer suspect I#8217;m even older.

Honestly, if you graduated in 2010, you#8217;re not applying for entry-level jobs, so why would your age be concerning? I think that age discrimination of the kind you#8217;re worried about really pops out when you#8217;re looking for that first post-law school job and essays, you#8217;re 10 years older than your classmates I#8217;d be more likely to do what you suggest then. At this point, you#8217;re well into your career so personally I wouldn#8217;t see a significant risk there. Ha- I#8217;ve seen the personal interests work against applicants. There was one law student who put that their special talent was building a house of cards in download napster computer, under a minute (talent changed slightly for privacy). Persuasive. Several people wanted to authoritarian leadership in the services, hand this person a deck of cards to test them during the interview. They were also known as the card student when discussed internally. Don#8217;t be that person.

But why? It wasn#8217;t an offensive interest. To the contrary, it appeared rather impressive and memorable to persuasive, the people. Yeah, if he can deliver I think that would be epic. And I would be pleased to be known as #8220;card student.#8221; The #8220;card#8221; applicant goes right along with the applicant who wore the really cool/funky/hot thing to the interview. Unless it#8217;s relevant (card-house building prepares me for a career in cup stacking), metaphorical (building card houses requires a keen sense of leadership in the public balance, as does this position, and each piece must be in place) or network-y (when I was at the card house tournament, I met person X, who you may know), why bring it up? I#8217;m not bringing it up. I#8217;m putting it on argumentative the very bottom of my resume as a fun fact to reward you for plowing through the rest of sweetheart it. Although certainly I am prepared to discuss its relevance to the position if you bring it up. Persuasive Argumentative Essays. I think it can work for and against#8230; I am off the characteristics opinion that card building is pretty awesome.

The ones I think should be avoided: -Travel#8230; And then listing places. I do not have a lot of work experience however, my volunteer life is where I have gained experience. SO I don#8217;t put my interests (reading, knitting, scrapbooking) but I put my volunteer experience that is relevant to persuasive argumentative essays, the position I am applying for (for example, I volunteer as an instructor/trainer for girl guides and letter for court samples, that gives me experience in public speaking/presenting and facilitating, things I want to do in a career but do not have the argumentative essays experience in characteristics, that yet). I remember the year everyone was fighting to hire the law student who took a year off school to drive the Weinermobile around the country. He had the argumentative best stories. Sweetheart. The one that was a subject of debate was the guy who put on his resume that he ran the Boston marathon with a broken foot. Shows determination or stupidity? Don#8217;t think he got an interview. +1 to argumentative, everything cbackson said. Yeah I agree with all of this. #4 (branding statement) sounds like something Resume Advice People invented to music, give themselves something to talk about. No one is (or should be) actually doing this.

Also#8230; #3#8230; unless you#8217;re super hard to argumentative essays, find on letter LinkedIn (why, though?) or have a super common name, you don#8217;t need to include a link. I#8217;d frankly rather google it. Essays. Agree on keeping the grad year. It honestly looks like you are trying to hide something by leaving it off. I would be wary of napster a candidate who did. Persuasive Essays. I am also against putting #8220;interests#8221; on resumes.

It#8217;s not relevant to whether you can do the Illusions Games Essay jobI want to know your education, experience, and interest in the actual work. Also, maybe I#8217;m overthinking things, but I think there#8217;s too big of a risk that your interests are boring (hiking, reading, traveling), will be perceived as taking too much time or energy away from persuasive argumentative work (triathlons, writing screenplays), falling into or out of some gender stereotype (sewing, baking, metalworking), or being too idiosyncratic (card guy). There#8217;s a possible exception of summer associate applicants because it#8217;s expected. But I also think law firms should stop asking. I kind of reference letter samples feel like if you#8217;re a card builder and argumentative essays, you#8217;re interviewing with a firm that is anti-idisyncratic, then that#8217;s good information and in the public, it#8217;s a useful screening device on both sides, no? Just read a REALLY interesting Harvard Business Review article addressing this exact topic. Special interest are actually a way that subtle social class cues are conveyed.
