Resume Advice, professional or not? Hey guys, I just put together a new resume and need some opinions. I'm considering branding myself with a logo I have created. See here: Hey thanks for System Diseases Essay, the advice Clancy. Actually none of the next sixfields times, organizations on the member list are Greek. Although they do have Greek names they are just honor societies that require certain volunteer work and System Diseases Essay, high GPA. The frat thing is just not me. Cool, my bad about the frat thing. Just sounds frat.

I actually have no idea about that stuff. Greek n' all. So, guess you should leave them in. I really like the two-column layout. M&s People. I've never seen that before. if you're trying to Renal Essay, get a job at a car wash. what is the Therapy Essay, title of that outkast song. Renal Diseases Essay. i new that phrase was stuck in my head from somewhere? Nevermind I found it, I guess that is the title. graphically, it's great. two columned is Nathaniel West's Miss Essay a really interesting approach. just watch out that your type doesn't get too small/crowded on an 8 1/2 x 11 (I'm presuming you're printing this out on something like that) and that you leave enough white space on Renal System Diseases the page. I didn't realize GPA's were accurate to the thousandth, 3.888?

Just round it up. First of all, if you're trying to start your own consulting firm or you're hoping to get on the design team of a star firm, ignore my comments. I don't have any practical knowledge of what those types of resumes should look like. I also say this because you mentioned branding yourself and this has absolutely no meaning if you want to be an intern. You don't have enough skills or experience to marcus garvey back to jamaica in 1927, brand anything. Renal Essay. However, here are my comments if your looking to why was marcus garvey back, get your first real job as an architectural intern. Mum, Thanks for taking the Diseases Essay, time to critique my resume. Also JG. Next Sixfields Times. point well taken, I forgot to round my GPA's. I realized while I was doing yard work this afternoon that the Business background probably had something to Renal System Essay, do with the branding concept. I second Mum's critique and give a shout out to the double column.

Skills at your level should include knowledge of certain software for sea biscuit, drafting and graphics. Those skills are the bare minimum for even getting an interview; few firms want to train autocad. I always look for the 3D chops on entry level resumes because that is one of my firms weaknesses. i kno that this maybe alittle picky, just wondering why your name isnt capitalized but every other title is. Renal Essay. I guess it doesnt really matter, just seeing where you were thinking about that. Hey Geezer, I pity the fool who didn’t have a Mr. Next Opening Times. T air freshener.

i'm with ya there defen. me neither. frankly i really dislike capital letters. some people really take offense to this, such that i have to run a script on Renal Diseases any email i send them or they won't respond. fair enough. I too like the lower case, just wondering. I'd like to get away from my university's umbrella and back in 1927, get a job on my own merit rather than relying on the established network of Essay alumni. I went the unique, graphic design heavy presentation route when I left school as well, I had a logo, a different portfolio size/layout and a custom font. In hind-sight it worked to get my first job but I won't do it again. Marcus To Jamaica. If you have enough quality work, just let it stand by itself. System Diseases. Do it clean and simple. Nathaniel Lonelyhearts. If you haven't enough work yet (as I didn't) making the resume/portfolio/package stand out might be the way to go. Satan is right about this one. I did a 'designed' resume right out of college and got a few calls back but when I moved on Renal System Diseases from my first professional job I used a simple standard format and got a lot of response.

Possibly because I had more experience but I'll never know for sure. eagle scout and a knight of architecture. I would re-order your resume to put your experience in the first column, right after education. Are you comfortable in both mac and Lonelyhearts, pc operating systems? If so I'd add this to your computer skills list. It's something a lot of my former employers looked for Diseases, and something I look for now. Can you write spreadsheets? Program in visual basic? If so I'd expand your Microsoft Office item to does right movement, specify this.

Ormolu, thanks for the comments. I like the idea of Essay making a related experience category that Highlights the internship. I was worried that it would get buried under the other jobs. Perhaps I will start the right hand column at the top with Related Experience and Nathaniel Miss Lonelyhearts Essay, list the internship and the construction job. Then a second experience category could follow up with the System Diseases, other jobs.

BOYSCOUT: the general consensus is to does movement, highlight the Eagle scout rank. Renal System. Any ideas on how to do this . I placed it in m&s people system its own line below honors and affiliations. This category is in chronological order. Is there another place for it? you hate bullets. but hr people love them. get over it and give them what they want to see. you can be cool later on after you get the job. and you can call it what ever you want, but NO ONE reads a paragraph on Diseases Essay any resume. Machine Essay. one line = one phrase or one sentence. get rid of the Renal Diseases, 'architectural comp. M&s People. lap assistant', do you really want to System Diseases Essay, be responsible for maintenance of printers and such at your new work place?

as before. 86 the lowes job and FOCUS on the construction job. any first hand construction knowledge is great. Radiation Machine Essay. but don't say it 'gained building systems knowledge' if you were a laborer, say something like 'fabricated cast in place concrete forms' or 'installed bur and singleply roofing system with alum. flashing sheets and reglets.' get the lingo going. it portrays your real understanding of construction materials and Renal, methods. SATAN: Points well taken. excellent critique. Hey guys, I've made some changes in the formatting and content of the resume in an attempt to opening times, make my architecture experience stand out Renal System Diseases more. What Civil Movement Mean. I've also removed most of the System, so called fluff. I've only looked at your updated version and I just wanted to make a couple of comments. I have reviewed several resumes recently (I am looking to hire) and I would say that your resume looks fine graphically. But, I would lose the part of your experience at Urban Design Group about the recycling and portfolio review. The Therac-25 Machine Essay. That bullet just seems goofy compared to the other experiece items listed under that job. The other items seem plenty for a short-term student employment.

Also, I would not increase the point size of the Eagle scout thing. Renal System Essay. It looks like a mistake. I agree with you. Butterballs. Although I normally do not capitalize my name, it does not fit here. Not sure what to system, do with the eagle scout thing. If the Renal, logo screams student, then great. that’s perfect. I've looked at both versions and think this one looks a lot better, but have a few comments based on m&s people my personal preferences (I work for System Diseases, myself now but have been in charge of reviewing resumes in other offices): - I also agree about the size of the Eagle Scout thing.

If you feel it should be bigger I would make everything in that section bigger. - You don't need the periods after the section headings. I know it's a graphic thing, but it's improper use of punctuation!(sorry, a pet peeve) In some sections you use periods after the civil right, descriptions and in others you don't. System. If you have to use the Machine Essay, periods, make it consistent. -I personally have no problem with the lack of caps - that's also a graphics thing that might not be recognized by some people.

In terms of it not being professional, we're a licensed design/build firm and we have no caps on our business cards or letterhead - I doubt it loses us any clients. It depends on System what type of firm you are looking at, and the same goes for the graphic. If you're going for corporate and/or conservative(depending also on Radiation Therapy Machine Essay where you are looking - out here in LA we're more relaxed), I would probably lose it. Maybe you could do 2 versions depending on who you are sending it to. - If there is any way to Renal Essay, fit it I would try to put a space between the dates the list of responsibilities below. It will make it easier to read. I like the font the way you've divided the next opening, titles up. Check the spacing thoroughly. For example, there seems to System Diseases, be more space between the comma 2005 than the comma 2004 in why was back in 1927 the education section. After Adobe in the software skills area, you don't need the colon if you have the brackets, use one or the other. R.A.

Rudolph, thanks for Renal Diseases Essay, the spacing suggestion. it does read better. I'm still a little back and forth on the capitalization of my name. I'm sorry but it seems very light weight graphically. no tone, texture, variation etc. the effort on the air freshener thing I don't get ( as in its not helping me think I should hire this guy ). As a first glance it would go to the bottom and system, I didn't even feel like I should spend the System, time to look at the content. I look at the overall first impression and Miss Lonelyhearts, then look over the content, need info on the project types ie wood frame , steel, non- combustable. Renal Essay. Speak about yourself. i would increase the font of your degree listings. by m&s people system, listing them smaller than, for Renal Diseases Essay, example, your experience listings, you seemingly value them less. as a student, standard protocol is to include your gpa, as you have done, especially if it is high, which yours is. Right. student services departments and resume books advocate this and its absence would imply that your grades were not good. You've already got loads of Diseases feedbac, but I think the travel section should stay. Rename it 'Travel' maybe so it sounds less grandiose, but travel is considered by many to does right mean, be an Renal System, essential part of an Nathaniel West's Miss, architect's education and I can't think of any reason it would be counted as a negative. Thanks J. I'd be comfortable leaving off the logo on System selected resumes to Nathaniel Essay, selected firms. Do you know how I might narrow down which firms might actually toss the resume because of the logo?

From the perspective of 31 years past graduation, here's my two cents. Lose the logo. Somehow, I don't equate a masters in business with that so clean, so fresh bit: personally I hate air freshener chemicals being added to the air I breathe, and System, it sounds suspiciously like it could also be a toilet bowl cleaner. Just my impression. I like the double column, an interesting touch. Work experience is well stated, gives a pretty realistic overview it seems. The GPA I go back and forth on. since I think grades are pretty meaningless anymore, given the overall dumbing down of the american educational system (another topic I realize, but read anything by John Gatto for more info), so the grades mean nothing to me. Sea Biscuit Summary. but I realize that some people might care. Personally, when I got out of school, and in interviewing for subsequent jobs, nobody ever asked what my gpa was and I would be surprised if when you leave it off, anyone asks you either. But, it is too small a part of the resume to really worry about. Overall, I would probably consider it instead of tossing it.

If it came packaged as you have already described, I would admire the cleverness and Renal System Diseases Essay, initiative, but wonder why you would use a clear/transparent envelope: does this indicate some kind of exhibitionist personality or lack of Nathaniel West's Miss Lonelyhearts discretion? Again, it would be something I wonder about, but I would probably still consider you as a potential hire. I would keep the Eagle scout thing, it will set you apart from most others. Finally, I agree with the Renal, post about milking the alumni network for whatever it is worth, realizing that there have to be other alumni who have flown the Texas coop and are practicing elsewhere. Miss. Take advantage of anything you can to get in Renal System the door: after that your performance should speak for itself. like the format but check the Radiation Machine Essay, overall formatting of the Essay, entire document. ummm my this works and this doesn't did not work. line your second line of text under the first line of text, it lets the marcus garvey sent to jamaica, hyphen standOUT. I am not so sure about the logo. Renal System. I like the idea, the columns, but I am not sure that an architecture firm will want the idea of hiring a 'brand'. If I were hiring, for sea biscuit, architecture and not graphics, I would want the person to assume the identity of the Renal Diseases, firm. Might just be me, I think it could be a 'hey, that's cool' or 'hmmm, why?'.

I agree with beta, give some hint as to your knowledge of the software you've listed. take a look at the firms' websites. Why Was Marcus Sent To Jamaica In 1927. take a look at the work that they produce. Renal System Diseases Essay. look at the firm organization and consider who will look at your package first, an hr guy, secretary, or architect. Also, I can't believe people, on a board filled with designers, are flipping out about a two-column layout. 'Oooh interesting.' 'I think it's OK. ' etc. Spread into one column, most items on a resume are one line. This often results in a striped appearance and a page that is more difficult to scan. I just don't understand the logo. Are you a big outkast fan?

Are you extremely hygienic? What does it mean? J. my guess is that in the end you'll find that two-out-of-three of what does civil right movement your resumes will be sans logo. what do you mean? I would advise against tree shaped business cards. Anything not of standard size will only be a niusance. Well, I talked to a professor and he suggested that I include ALL of my scholarships rather than selecting just a few.

So, I've added the rest of the scholarships. Essay. I also moved the Boy Scout thing back down so that the honors read chronologically. I deleted the office supply bullet from my internship description and placed the travel section under Architectural Experiences. I'm laughing so hard right now, I'm sorry. You're no longer clean, just fresh? Please, please, please get rid of the Nathaniel West's Miss Essay, air freshener. You're getting way too much feedback and it's beginning to backfire. i understand that word is not a choice program when trying to craft a beautiful resume, but it would solve many of the problems you are having. you either need to make photoshop work (line spacing and indents) or scrap it. Renal System. there is opening times nothing so sophisticated here that it cannot be accomplished in word. the bullet indents in System Essay particular, they look especially unflattering.

I know this is late but seriously, you should not do your resume in photoshop. Preferably Indesign or Quark, Illustrator if you have to, but not photoshop. That isn't what the m&s people system, program is for. System Diseases. Excel would give you better results than photoshop. Agreed. Indesign or Illustrator it should be.

You get to Nathaniel West's Miss Essay, interview, the interviewer asks about the logo. System. You explain… Are you sure you want to block this user and hide all related comments throughout the site?

Essay: What are the nurses’ experiences in caring for dementia patients with challenging behaviour? Global ageing is Renal Diseases Essay increasing exponentially along with dementia prevalence rates. The demographic trends show that dementia along with other comorbidities has a serious effect on prolonged hospitalisation than people without dementia, with a huge impact on health services and the national economy .The nurses in acute wards play a major role in m&s people identifying and managing the Renal Diseases Essay, challenging behaviour. The interventions seems to be inconsistent due to the busy context of the acute wards and lack of guidance on care of dementia patients with challenging behaviour, which again has a detrimental effect on what does mean dementia patients. Upon reviewing the Renal System, literature, a gap is sent identified about experiences of Diseases Essay nurses caring for West's Lonelyhearts, dementia patients with challenging behaviour . Hence the writer plans to explore the experiences of Essay nurses in dementia with challenging behaviours using a Husserlian phenomenological approach with the West's, hope that it can contribute to the nursing practices. Dementia is a progressive degenerative disease of the brain, and Essay the fourth leading cause of death for the age group of does movement mean 65 and above (O’Callaghan 2008, cited by Jean and Murphy, 2011). Essay. Currently there are about opening 41,470 people with dementia live in Ireland as per EuroCoDe age/gender specific dementia prevalence rates (2006 census of Renal System population). Behaviours that challenge can appear in any of the three stages of sea biscuit dementia. Confusion and cognitive impairment are the major comorbidities present in the hospitalised elderly population with dementia (Moyle et al. 2008). Hospitalized dementia patients had complex needs, particularly while they exhibit challenging behaviour.

Caring for the elderly people with dementia makes matchless challenges to healthcare staff, particularly to care for their personal needs as well as to manage their disruptive behaviour (Moyle et al. 2008). While attending the heavy work load along with high emotional involvement can produce stress on nursing staff which could lead to frustration and dissatisfaction (Chou et al. 2012). Staff works with patients who have challenging behaviours often express negative feelings and poor job satisfaction (Farrell et al.

2010). Renal Diseases. Even though there were many studies conducted in what right movement mean the area of dementia and associated behaviours , few studies done about nurses’ experiences in caring for dementia patients with challenging behaviour. Hence the Renal System Diseases, writer aims to conduct a study about nurses’ experiences of summary caring for Renal Essay, dementia patients with challenging behavior. Sixfields Times. A detailed literature review will be conducted with explaining the methodology of the study used and suggestions will be concluded. 1.2 Search strategy. A literature search using electronic databases: Cinahl, Medline, Pub Med,Cochrane and Google scholar.

The search terms used were’dementia’ and ‘Alzheimer’s’ and ‘Challenging behaviour’and ‘Aggressive behaviour’and ‘Nurses’ experiences’and’Acute hospital’. Search limited to include full text available online, publications between 2006-2013 , English language and age group of 65 and above. The search yielded 120 articles of which 16 were relevant to the topic and Essay rest were excluded. Out of 16 studies 7 were dealing with dementia patients in acute hospitals and 6 were about challenging behaviour in dementia patients and opening times 3 were dealing with nurses’ stress and job satisfaction. Renal. Reference list was also reviewed from the articles used to review. The writer used a data extraction grid to collect data from the literature ( Appendix 1).

1.3 Review of Literature. 1.3.1 Caring for older people with dementia. The National Dementia Strategy in The Therac-25 Therapy Machine Essay England identifies dementia as a fatal illness with a life expectancy of 4.5 years from diagnosis to death (Xie et al.2008). Dementia leads to decline in cognition with impact on judgement , comprehension, language, emotional control , intellect , memory and social skills (World Health Organisation 2007). Alzheimer’s is the most common form of dementia and other types are vascular dementia, Lewy body dementia and frontotemporal dementia (Cahill et al. 2012). System Essay. Dementia has three stages; early, moderate and severe (http://www.dementia.ie). In a qualitative study by next opening, Nolan (2007) using a purposive sample of seven nurses with the thematic approach reported that the physical layout of the acute ward as inappropriate to care for older people with dementia and Renal Diseases Essay the highlighted alarm is the safety of the patient. This study also talked about nurses’ enhanced knowledge of sea biscuit summary environmental dangers, especially in relation to those who wander, and stressed the need to keep them under close supervision. It had an impact on System Diseases Essay the nurses’ ability to garvey in 1927 provide care for other patients, mainly while there were many other dementia patients to be cared for. Nurses had their own viewpoints about dementia care, grounded in their own beliefs and Renal Essay practices instead of schooling and knowledge.

Dementia patients were often detailed as powerful and persistent labels, and m&s people were often sighted as being different from other patients (Cowdell 2009). This study, using an ethnographic approach suggested that instead of meeting the System Diseases, needs of the clients , care mainly focussed on completing the physical needs and provision of care included less amount of good communication. Due to why was marcus back functional deficits, dementia patients were unable to complete their activities of daily living and due to the time constraints nurses had to take over such activities (Nolan 2006). While attending these activities, nurses were aware of inhibiting the System Diseases Essay, autonomy which could disrupt the personhood of dementia patients. It was noted , this study had the limitations of a small sample size and was conducted in a geriatric ward which was not characteristic of other acute wards. Similar results were found out by a study of Edberg et al. (2008).

A qualitative study by Edvardsson et al. (2011) found out that ‘the emotional feeling tone of the psychosocial unit’ has great influence on dementia patients and is necessary for Radiation Essay, maintaining the well being of dementia patients. Nurses had a vital role in producing and maintaining such a positive climate with their presence, and work. 1.3.2 Challenging behaviour in dementia. Challenging behaviour has been defined as ‘an active attempt by the person to express an unmet need, which could be physiological and psychological’ (Stokes G 2000, cited by Andrews 2006 ) or ‘can be a sign of pain or suffering , or a reaction to carer’s torment, which consecutively increases the behavioural problems’ (Bird et al. 2007). A quantitative study by Pulsford (2011) using the Management of Renal Aggression in People with Dementia Attitude Questionnaire (MAPDAQ) to assess the system, behaviour, the result shows that staff finds the Renal Essay, aggressive behaviour mainly as circumstantial, could be from an interaction with staff or from the nature of what care providing.

Physical aggression occurred frequently with staff was the target for Renal Diseases, many of those incidents. This study was limited by Nathaniel West's Miss Essay, less response from staff. Moyle et al. (2010) study using a convenience sample of 13 participants in a large Australian hospital reported that dementia patients with wandering behaviour added more responsibilities to the nurses care due to the limitations of the System Diseases, acute care environment. So they had an attitude to devalue such patients which led to nurses managing the safety issues of the patient, and less intervention were used to meet the The Therac-25 Therapy Machine, physical, social and emotional needs of persons with dementia. In a study by Nolan (2007) findings suggested that nurses felt secure in the presence of dementia patients who were not agitated and aggressive. A cross sectional survey by Cubit et al. (2007) reported that aggressive behaviour is the main reason for increased stress in nurses followed by verbal disruption and wandering. Moyle et al. (2010) reported Staff used physical and chemical restraints to control aggressive upsurges. The writer suggests that nurses’ understanding of challenging behavior and Renal its pre-disposing factors can help nurses improve their attitude to dementia patients and improve quality of care.

1.3.3 Nurses’ Experiences in caring for dementia patients with challenging behaviour. The preconceived ideas about the clients violent behaviour caused shortfalls in quality of care and led to lacking individual care which added increased psychological distress and decreased job satisfaction among nurses (Isaksson et al. 2009). Therapy. This study had limitations of a small sample size and conscious biases present, but the trustworthiness is proved by System Diseases, discussing the findings with other research groups and by seminars with other researchers. Nurses described caring for older people with dementia in an acute hospital as reaching to Machine feelings of incompetence and job dissatisfaction , and tended to focus their efforts on physical care due to lack of confidence (Cowdell 2009). Essay. Again this study reported nursing staff experienced more emotional challenges when patients become upset or difficult to manage. Byers’ (2008) study using a phenomenological approach about the lived experiences of registered nurses providing care to patients with dementia in the acute care setting , all the participants repeatedly expressed feelings of guilt and dissatisfaction.

Also they expressed that they were unable to practice the way they should which created more stress and challenge for them. Similar results were found out by Edberg et al.’s (2008) study using a combined approach of qualitative and quantitative methods. Nurses who work in dementia special care units for long term experienced less distress from disruptive behaviour which was in contrast to previous studies where residential care staff with more experience suffered more strain (Cubit et al. 2007), but this study had used the convenience sample for cross sectional survey and the survey tool was limited by asking to recall events from the past week, thus reliability can be questioned. Nathaniel. Edvardsson et al. (2009) found that the caring climate had a significant role in producing job strain in Diseases nursing staff caring for opening, persons with dementia, which could lead to poor job satisfaction. The writer finds that nurses experiences stress and poor job satisfaction in caring for dementia patients with challenging behavior. So the writer aims to explore the experiences of nurses to understand how the nursing care can be improved. 1.4 Methodological issues in the literature:

Upon reviewing the literature, the studies which gave information about the experiences of Renal Diseases nurses about dementia care where qualitative studies and had rich descriptions about the topic but as the samples were small in size in next opening qualitative research and the studies conducted in single sites, the results cannot be generalised. Edberg et al.’s (2008) study used a focus group and participants were recruited through the personal awareness of moderators and reliability can be varied, but trustworthiness and transferability of the findings evidenced by the uniqueness of results and is reinforced by agreement of the findings between nurses in System different groups and across the countries. Ethical approval was obtained from relevant sources for all studies. Many studies said that acute care settings had limitations in caring for dementia patients where nurses hold different job roles and look after critically ill patients. As global ageing is increasing exponentially along with dementia prevalence rates it is important to provide adequate nurses training and facilities to care for dementia patients in Radiation Therapy Machine acute conditions. Hence the Renal System Diseases Essay, writer aims to explore the experiences of Nathaniel Miss nurses in caring for dementia patients with challenging behaviour and to contribute findings to improve quality care . Chapter 2: Methodological issues in research. In reviewing the literature related to Renal System Diseases nurses’ experiences of caring for dementia patients with challenging behaviour, three main themes were emerging. It has been identified that nurses are the frontline workers in the acute hospital with dementia patients and there were not much study done about the experiences of nurses in relation to caring and summary their knowledge of dementia care.

Therefore a gap has been identified in the literature. This chapter will describe the methodology selected by the writer and its relevance to the writers research topic. A brief overview of various research designs will be provided followed by the population and sample described along with rationale for Renal System Diseases Essay, the selected sample size. The writer will then discuss about the data collection and data analysis methods and a pilot study will be described. Ethical considerations will be addressed and at the end, trustworthiness and the strengths and limitations will be explained. 2:2 Aim of the study: The proposed research aims to why was back explore the experiences of nurses in caring for dementia patients with challenging behaviour to find out about the barriers and to improve care standards for dementia patients.

2:3 The Research Question: What are the nurses’ experiences in caring for dementia patients with challenging behaviour? 2:4 Research Methodology. Nursing research is System Essay a systematic inquiry structured to build trustworthy evidence to important issues of nurses and their clients and research methods are the sea biscuit summary, techniques used by Renal System Diseases Essay, researchers to collect and scrutinize the information relevant to the question (Polit Beck 2014). While Paradigm is a broad viewpoint on the complexities of the real world (Polit Beck 2008), methodology is the framework used to conduct the why was marcus garvey back, research (O’Leary 2004). The quality of Diseases Essay research is Machine reinforced with selecting the correct research methodology for answering the research question effectively (Gerrish Lacey 2010). Diseases Essay. Quantitative research uses positivist paradigm and, qualitative research is related to constructivist (Naturilistic) paradigm (Polit Beck 2014). Quantitative research seeks to sea biscuit present a world view which is objective and involves variables which can be quantified and manipulated whereas qualitative research looks to get the opinions, experiences of participants and the meanings of their perspective on the research topic is looking for (Watson et al. 2008).

Quantitative studies can be divided into descriptive, Co relational and quasi experimental studies. System Essay. It is again divided into experimental or clinical trials and, non experimental or observational studies (Polit Beck 2014). Qualitative researchers give attention to the dynamic, holistic and sea biscuit summary individual aspects of human life and try to absorb those aspects as a whole, within the environment in which it is Essay experienced (Polit Beck 2014). Qualitative study can be divided into three categories: grounded theory, which describe the key social and psychological processes which occur in the social setting wherein ethnography learn from members of the cultural groups, to realise their world view and, describes their customs and norms. Phenomenological approach studies about life experiences of people and what they mean to Nathaniel West's Miss Lonelyhearts Essay them (Polit Beck 2014). Parahoo (2006) says that phenomenology is Renal System based on the philosophy of Husserl (descriptive), in contrast Heideggerian phenomenology looks into the individual personal history and psychological make up to understand the Therapy, way in which how they experiences phenomena (interpretive). Essay. The aim of the proposed research is to explore the experiences of nurses caring for dementia patients with challenging behaviour, therefore the writer finds qualitative research method using the Husserlian phenomenological approach as appropriate to the study. Husserlian phenomenology has four steps, which are intuiting, analysing , describing and bracketing. By using ‘bracketing ‘which leaves writer’s perceptions, prejudices and beliefs away to get the description of respondents’ experiences in pure form (Polit Beck 2014) The research will be undertaken as part of next sixfields a PG diploma in Renal System Diseases Nursing and the time scale will be over 9 months.( Appendix 2 ) 2.5 Population, sample and system sampling.

A target population is the Diseases Essay, total population and study population is a subset of the target population (Gerrish Lacey 2010) while the sample is a subset of the population being Studied (Polit Beck 2008). In phenomenology, the sample has to include those who have experienced the phenomenon. So the writer plans to use nurses who care for dementia patients. Sampling is the m&s people, process of selecting a portion of the population to represent the entire population (Polit Beck 2008). Qualitative researchers look to identify the key individuals, events or settings that provide a rich source of data and are not so concerned about identifying the Essay, total population in developing the sample frame (Gerrish Lacey 2010). Nathaniel Miss Lonelyhearts Essay. There are two basic sampling methods in research, probability sampling and quantitative studies use this sample more but non probability sampling is used by qualitative researchers (Gerrish Lacey 2010). The writer has chosen a purposive sample for this study, which is a form of non probability sampling and Renal System researchers’ knowledge of the population employed to select the sample (Polit Beck 2008). West's Miss Lonelyhearts. LoBiondo-Wood and Renal System Essay Haber (1998) pointed out the chances for conscious bias and summary invalid assumptions as the limitations with purposive sampling technique. However purposive samplings are commonly used in phenomenological studies to build up knowledge by Renal Essay, providing sound and appropriate data. A sample of 10 nurses working in West's Miss Lonelyhearts Essay an acute geriatric ward in an academic teaching hospital in Ireland and regularly caring for Diseases Essay, dementia patients with challenging behaviour deemed appropriate for the study.

2.6 Inclusion and Exclusion Criteria. Registered nurses with minimum one year working experience and care for dementia patients with challenging behaviour on Nathaniel Miss Lonelyhearts a regular basis are included. Nurse managers and specialist nurses, who are not directly rendering the care, agency nurse and nurses on sick leave/maternity leave are excluded. 2.7 Study Setting. The participants will be more relaxed and System Essay relieved if they are in a comfortable setting , and will be more open with the Radiation Therapy Machine, researcher (Langford 2001). Renal Essay. He again told that qualitative research is generally conducted in the natural setting of the sea biscuit summary, phenomena. Hence the investigator aims to carry out the study in a private room in the hospital which is away from the ward. 2.8 Data Collection. Data is the information collected during the course of a study and it can be in Renal Diseases Essay the form of numerical values in quantitative study whereas narrative information on a qualitative study (Polit Beck 2014).

Data collection is a precise, systematic gathering of information required to answer a research question (Burns Grove 2006). According to Creswell (2007) the data collection steps in qualitative study include (a) setting limitations for the study (b) gather information through observation, interviews , documents and visual materials (c) establishing the protocol for recording information .Interviews are the most common method of data collection in phenomenology (Whiting 2008). Interviews can be structured, unstructured and semi structured (Parahoo 2006). To understand the phenomenon being studied, unstructured interviews use an informant guided approach to assemble data. West's Miss Lonelyhearts Essay. (Watson et al. 2012). Phenomenological interviews which gather life-world descriptions of experiences are similar to, but different from other types of non structured open ended interviews (Gerrish Lacey 2010). This begins with a request to interviewee to Renal System describe the relevant experience in detail and , the West's Lonelyhearts, request is similar to all informants. Rigor in qualitative research is a strict process of data collection and analysis and is carried throughout the procedure to Renal Essay maintain quality (Macnee McCabe 2008).

For this research, unstructured interviews will be conducted with a request to describe the experiences in caring for dementia patients with challenging behaviour while looking for the relevant experiences. The interviewer then helps the informant by explaining the examples and asking what was it like for the respondent, to system gather the life-world in full and System solid. The interviews are open ended and the interviewer may focus on trying to clarify in sea biscuit summary the depth of the nature of the phenomenon being studied (Gerrish Lacey 2010). The interviews will be tape recorded with participants’ permission and transcribed afterwards along with the field notes. 2.9 Data analysis: Data analysis reduces, organises and provides meaning to the data collected (Burns Grove 2010). In qualitative research, analysis of System data is hooked on to the methodological aspect used to guide the study process (Watson et al. M&s People. 2012). Creswell (1994) suggested that data analysis happens simultaneously with data collection, data interpretation and System narrative report writing in qualitative study whereas in quantitative research the data collection, analysis and writing results happen in different stages. At the end of the interviews the sea biscuit summary, recorded materials of data collection have to be transcribed for data analysis, where data are searched, coded, and formed into patterns that adhere to the rules of the Diseases Essay, guiding methodology (Watson et al.

2012). For the transcription of data to shape the responses of informants in phenomenological research where the data collected through unstructured interviews, Tesch (1990) has developed an right mean, eight step approach (Creswell 1994). In this research, all the interviews will be audio taped and transcribed for transcript verbatim, uses handwritten field notes to narrate the participants mannerisms during the interview and Renal System the researchers’ impressions after each interview (Parahoo 2006). The data collection and analysis will be continued until data saturation occurs. 2.10 Pilot Interview:

A pilot study is the smaller version of a proposed study and the researcher usually carries out these to process the methodology (Burns Grove 2010). A pilot interview will be carried out in the proposed setting with one nurse to assess feasibility of the study, the The Therac-25 Therapy Essay, effectiveness of sample, familiarise the writer with the interview process, tape recording equipment and it will allow any other issues that arise to be dealt with by the researcher. The writer expects that this pilot study will be beneficial to strengthen the major study design. For the research results to Essay be accurate and why was marcus garvey valid, quantitative researchers collect high quality data by the use of measuring instruments, whereas in qualitative research, the System Diseases Essay, trustworthiness of data is established by confirming the findings with informants which exactly display the viewpoints and Nathaniel West's experiences of them instead of researchers’ perceptions (Polit Beck 2008). Trustworthiness is the extent of qualitative researchers’ confidence in the data they have and, it is assessed by Renal, using the criteria of m&s people system credibility, transferability, dependability, confirmability and authenticity (Polit Beck 2006).

Credibility refers to the findings being typical of the Diseases, participants’ experiences which will be established in this study by validating the results with participants . While transferability is the scope of the mean, findings to be applicable to other settings (Polit Beck 2006) and is obtained by detailed description of System setting and audit trail. Confirmability is the consistency and repeatability of the decision making in the process of data collection and analysis which is ensured by developing and maintaining an audit trail (McCabe et al. 2008). Dependability of qualitative data focuses on the stability of information across individuals or over time and will be gained by achieving saturation, audit trail and member checking and in the current study the m&s people, writer plans to collect data until saturation occurs (Houser 2012). A reflective diary will be maintained throughout the research process, so that the researchers’ decision trail can be clear. Essay. By providing results in sea biscuit the dissemination, the Renal Essay, reader can evaluate whether it can be transferred to other settings. 2.12 Ethical Consideration. D-Day or Operation Overlord, June 6, 1944. As dawn broke on June 6, 1944, the Allied invasion fleet became visible crossing the choppy waters of the English Channel to France. Diseases Essay. None of does right mean, those who took part in D-Day, whether soldier, sailor, or airman, would ever forget the sight. It was by far the largest amphibious invasion force ever known, with more than 5,000 ships carrying 175,000 troops. The view from the air was breathtaking. Many pilots said later that the sea was packed so full of ships that it almost looked as if you could walk to System Diseases, France. The air support plan included more than 6,000 aircraft, with transports dropping three airborne divisions, heavy and medium bombers attacking beach defences, and other squadrons on deception operations. Marcus Garvey Back To Jamaica. Typhoon and P-47 Thunderbolt fighter-bombers would roam inland, ready to attack German reinforcements coming to help defend the coast.

Layered screens of Renal System, Allied fighters between the Parisian region and Radiation Machine the Normandy beaches would ensure that German aircraft never reached the Renal System Essay invasion area in daylight. And anti-submarine patrols of Sunderlands and B-24 Liberators had already started to patrol every map-square of the sea between southern Ireland and Brittany. To the great embarrassment of Grand Admiral Doenitz, not a single German U-boat got through to the Channel. In fact one Canadian pilot broke all records by sinking two German submarines in sea biscuit the Bay of Biscay within twenty-two minutes. The fact that the invasion fleet had sailed at all on the night of June 5 was almost a miracle in itself. General Dwight D. Eisenhower, the Allied supreme commander, had faced a terrible dilemma. On June 2 his meteorologists had warned of a bad storm. The invasion was put back by twenty-four hours in Renal Diseases a desperate hope that conditions might improve.

Eisenhower knew that a major postponement of two weeks until tides were again favorable could well prove disastrous. Marcus Sent Back In 1927. To disembark all those soldiers from their landing ships and then re-embark them later would have been very bad for morale, and the Germans might well have discovered the Allied plan. Told that there might be a break in Diseases the bad weather on sixfields times, June 6, Eisenhower assumed the huge responsibility of his position and decided to go. System Essay. General Miles Dempsey, who commanded the Second British Army in the invading force said later that Eisenhower’s decision was the bravest act of the whole war. It is easy for us to system, look back and think that D-Day was bound to System Diseases Essay, succeed, but it could have been a disaster. Operation Overlord, the invasion of sea biscuit, Normandy, was an intensely emotional event for Renal System Diseases, all the Allies—Americans, British, Canadians, and men from thirty different countries, many of which had, like France, been occupied for the previous four years by the German Wehrmacht after its devastating victories in Radiation Therapy Machine Essay 1940. For the French, this moment of setting out to help liberate their homeland was especially poignant.

For the British, it marked their return at last to the continent of Europe after the bitterness of their evacuation from Dunkirk. For American soldiers, the System invasion represented a moment of selfless duty. The United States was once more coming to Lonelyhearts Essay, the rescue of war-torn Europe, this time oppressed by the Nazi regime. All they could console themselves with was the idea that the sooner they helped win the war, the Diseases sooner they could go home to their families—assuming they survived. The pre-battle tension for everyone was considerable. Keith Douglas, one of the great soldier poets of the right movement Second World War, who was killed in Normandy a few days later, wrote the following lines shortly before D-Day: Actors waiting in the wings of Europe.

we already watch the Renal Diseases Essay lights on sea biscuit summary, the stage. and listen to the colossal overture begin. For us entering at Renal System Essay, the height of the din. it will be hard to hear our thoughts, hard to gauge. how much our conduct owes to fear or fury. The overture was indeed colossal, whether from US Navy and Royal Navy battleships firing huge shells that screamed “like freight cars” over sea biscuit summary, the heads of the soldiers packed into landing craft, or bombers coming in from the Renal System sea to smash the German defensive positions and barbed wire. Other bomber groups inland smashed French towns to block the routes by which German reinforcements would arrive.

French civilians in why was marcus back Normandy suffered terribly. Fifteen thousand were killed in the lead-up to D-Day, and another 20,000 were to Renal Diseases, die during the summary fighting. Altogether some 75,000 French civilians were killed in the war by British and American bombing and artillery, an even higher figure than the 69,000 British killed by the German air force. It is System, a terrible irony that the The Therac-25 armed forces from democracies ended up killing so many civilians because their commanders felt forced by the pressure of public opinion at home to Diseases Essay, reduce their own casualties as much as possible. Preceded by flotillas of minesweepers, the m&s people system invasion fleet headed for five long beaches on Diseases, the Normandy coastline.

They were codenamed Sword, Juno, and Gold (where two British and one Canadian division were landing), and Omaha and Utah (where the leading battalions of system, three American divisions were headed). The task of the US 4th Infantry Division landing at Utah at the base of the Cotentin Peninsula, was to head inland to meet up with the paratroopers of the Renal Essay 82nd and marcus garvey sent back to jamaica in 1927 101st Airborne Divisions who had been dropped during the night. Heavily weighed down by arms and ammunition, some had drowned in Renal Essay flooded areas. Others landed on German positions and were massacred before they had a chance to fight back. A number were killed while they hung helplessly from parachutes caught on trees or on rooftops. But although widely scattered in the chaotic drops, most of them survived to next sixfields times, join up in improvised groups and cause terror among the German defenders, who thought they were everywhere. Renal. They were reinforced by more airborne troops flown over in m&s people system large gliders towed by transport aircraft. System. It was a frightening journey for even the bravest men, knowing that many would be badly injured or killed on does right movement mean, crash landing. The objective for the American 1st and 29th Infantry Divisions was Omaha Beach, a long, gently curving stretch of coastline.

Approached from the sea, the beach ended on Renal, the right with massive cliffs. Four miles farther around to sea biscuit summary, the west was the Pointe du Hoc promontory. This was where a battalion of US Rangers had to scale a sheer cliff to silence a German battery. The first landing craft set off from their mother ships at 0520 hours. They had over an hour’s journey in heavy seas to land on the beach at H-hour (the time the Renal attack was to begin). The larger ships were anchored at least ten miles offshore, out of range of German coastal guns. During the long and tumultuous crossing, a dozen of the landing craft were swamped or capsized.

The bomber formations appeared at 0605 hours. They flew in from the sea to reduce their vulnerability to flak over garvey back, the target area, rather than following the Renal line of the coast. Sea Biscuit Summary. As they reached the Diseases Essay beaches, their crews delayed an extra few seconds before releasing their bomb loads to avoid hitting any landing craft approaching the beach. As a result all the ground commanders’ hopes that the air force would destroy barbed-wire entanglements, minefields, and some of the defensive positions were utterly dashed. Sea Biscuit. In the thirty minutes preceding H-hour, the Diseases B-24 Liberators and B-17 Fortresses dropped 13,000 bombs, but none fell on The Therac-25 Radiation Therapy Essay, the beach. “The Air Corps might just as well have stayed home in Renal bed for all the The Therac-25 Radiation Therapy good that their bombing concentration did,” one officer in the 1st Division observed angrily later. To compound the problem, the forty minutes allowed for the naval bombardment proved far too short to Renal System Diseases Essay, deal with the beach defences. At a given moment, the landing craft, which had been circling offshore to await H-hour, headed in toward land. What Civil Mean. The absence of fire from the shore aroused hopes that the Renal Diseases warships and air force had done their work as planned. The infantrymen were so tightly wedged that few could see much over why was marcus sent to jamaica, the helmets in front of them and the tall landing ramp at the front.

The assault craft were still “bucking like an unbroken horse,” so many just shut their eyes against the queasy sensation of motion sickness. Renal Diseases. By then the landing craft “reeked of vomit.” Because of the smoke and dust thrown up by the shelling, the coxswains had trouble recognizing any landmarks. “Soon we became conscious of pinking noises near us,” wrote a US Navy lieutenant, “and when a couple of men toppled to the deck, we became conscious of the fact that we were being fired at with real bullets, by a very much alive enemy.” When the marcus garvey sent back in 1927 ramps were dropped, the German machine gunners concentrated their fire on the opening. “Men were tumbling just like corn cobs off of a conveyor belt,” wrote a sergeant from Renal System Diseases, Wisconsin. In all too many cases, the landing craft had come to a halt on a sandbar short of the beach. The water appeared shallow, but ahead there were deep runnels. The craft were still bucking with the waves, and The Therac-25 Radiation Essay “if you slipped under the metal ramp you would be killed as it crashed down.” In some places men leaped off and found the water over their heads. System Diseases Essay. In desperation, they dropped their weapons and garvey sent back to jamaica wriggled out of their equipment to Renal System Diseases, survive. Some of Nathaniel, those behind, seeing their buddies floundering under the weight of their equipment, panicked. “There were dead men floating in the water and there were live men acting dead, letting the tide take them in.” The prospect of crossing the stretch of beach in front of them seemed impossible. Any idea of trying to System Essay, run through the summary shallows, carrying heavy equipment and in sodden clothes and boots seemed like a bad dream in which limbs felt leaden and numb.

Overburdened soldiers stood little chance. System Essay. There were cries in all directions: “I’m hit! I’m hit!” With many of their officers and m&s people noncoms among the first casualties, soldiers recovering from the shock of Renal System Diseases Essay, their reception realized that they had to get across the beach, if only to survive. A soldier from Minnesota in the 1st Division wrote home later describing how he had dashed forward in thirty-yard sprints. “I’ve never in m&s people system all my life prayed so much.” He looked back at the remnants of his squad. “It was awful.

People dying all over the place—the wounded unable to move and being drowned by the incoming tide and boats burning madly as succeeding waves tried to get in. . . . I’ve never seen so many brave men who did so much—many would go way back and try to gather in the wounded and themselves got killed.” Those who had made it were not even able to help with covering fire. “At least 80% of our weapons did not work because of sand and sea water.” In their desire to be able to fire back as soon as they landed, most soldiers had made the mistake of stripping the waterproof covering from their guns before reaching the shore. Almost all the radios failed to work as a result of seawater, and this contributed greatly to the chaos. An artillery officer described the soldiers he saw. “They were beat up and shocked. System Essay. Many of them had forgotten that they had firearms to use.” It was hardly surprising that they were dazed. Nathaniel Essay. A number were barely out of high school, and this disastrous baptism of fire produced psychological trauma. Battalion and Diseases company officers ordered their men to The Therac-25 Machine Essay, clean their rifles. Those who had lost their weapons took them off the dead. Diseases Essay. More senior officers arriving with their headquarter groups were to provide the leadership critically needed at this time.

They forced the men, once they had cleaned their weapons, to start breaking through the wire and minefields onto the bluffs behind to attack the German positions. In this way, Omaha Beach, which so easily could have been the does civil right movement scene of Renal System, a terrible catastrophe, was transformed into a hard-won American victory. Once the Allies were securely ashore, they were bound to prevail with their overwhelming superiority in air power and artillery. German plans for a massive tank counter-attack against the British Second Army on the eastern side came to nothing when the Germans were hammered by the heavy guns of the sea biscuit US Navy and System Diseases the Royal Navy off the coast. But the system success of D-Day was not enough. American, British, and Canadian troops faced another two-and-a-half months of vicious fighting ahead in the Norman countryside before the German forces were ground down. Normandy was martyred in its suffering, but this terrible concentration of fighting at least saved Paris and the rest of the country from destruction.

Every year on the anniversary of D-Day, Allied veterans are welcomed back in memory of their comrades’ sacrifice. Antony Beevor served as a regular officer in the 11th Hussars in Germany.
